Nostalgia (Linocut)
Nostalgia (Linocut)
This print is a stylized depiction of Mount Baldy, a sand dune located in the Indiana Dunes National Park (my childhood stomping ground). The grueling hike up the 120’ dune and the dead run down is a rite of passage for NWI natives. Mount Baldy is my favorite place to watch the sun set over Chicago. Thick, humid air coupled with steel factories billowing smoke across the Indiana shoreline create the most dramatic sunsets. The birds in this print reference a tapestry that was framed in my childhood home.
Nostalgia is carved from two pieces of mounted linoleum. After shying away from color over the last few years I’ve recently felt a pull to begin reintroducing it to my work. That subtle split fountain in the sun has me all sorts of excited to continue exploring this path. This print is now available on 3 different types of tan paper. Due to the hand-made nature of printmaking there are slight variations between prints. It’s what makes the medium so special.
